My goal is to provide professional, courteous and prompt service in person, on the telephone or online while respecting both the citizens of Clayton County and the Code of Iowa.

Online Payments

IowaTaxAndTags.org provides the ability to pay property taxes and vehicle tag renewals online.

Accepted Payment Types:

• eCheck (electronic funds transfer), Discover Card, Master Card, and Visa via the internet and over-the-counter. A non-refundable Service Delivery Fee will be applied to the total due.
• Returned checks and eChecks fees are $20.00 each per IA Code Section 331.553.

Property Taxes

• When possible have your tax statement available to you while making payment
• If you do not have your statement available and you do not know your parcel number please use the convenient name search provided for you on the payment system.
• Tax Sale Redemption can NOT be paid through this site.  Please inquire at 563-245-1807.

Motor Vehicle Renewals

• You are eligible to renew online if you received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service that contains a PIN number.
• Half year license and apportioned vehicles are not eligible for online renewal.
• Online service is not available if proof of SR22 insurance is required or any state debts are owed.

• Written tests: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
• Drive tests and motorcycle tests: by appointment only
