Mary Maloney has served as Polk County Treasurer since 1989, currently elected to her 5th Term.

A 1977 Graduate of Iowa State University with a Degree in Economics, Mrs. Maloney brought a Financial and Computer Background in Business to Polk County. Under her leadership significant technological changes have been made to the office.

She and her husband Peter and two children are Des Moines residents.

Tax Sale

Accepted Payment Types

eCheck (electronic funds transfer), Discover Card, Master Card, and Visa. A non-refundable Service Delivery Fee will be applied to your total. Mailed payments are also accepted (credit cards are not accepted for payments mailed to our office).

Current Online Payment Services:

We recommend you renew your vehicle registrations and pay your property taxes online. It’s easy, fast and safe. Online payment options include Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa and eCheck – an electronic transfer of funds from your bank account to the County bank account.

» Online registration renewals are processed and mailed within 24 business hours of your online payment. Current services include vehicle registration renewals, both current and past due (beginning with June 2009 past due renewals). Online registration renewals require a PIN number located in the upper portion of your renewal notice statement. You are eligible to renew online if you received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service that contains a PIN. Online service is not available if you are required to show proof of SR22 insurance, state debts are owed or a vehicle has been stolen and not recovered.

What if I'm missing the PIN?

If you do not have the PIN available proceed with the online payment process. Click on "I have read and understand the information above" located at the bottom of the welcome page. Click on “Lost Your PIN” at the bottom of the screen in step 1 to request that we email the PIN to you.

» Online tax payments are processed on the first business day following your online payment.

Current online payment services include payment of property taxes (excluding tax sales). eCheck payments require a tax receipt number located on the coupon portion of your tax statement.

What if I'm missing the Tax Receipt Number (TRN)?

Option 1: You may view your online tax statement(s) to obtain your Tax Receipt Number (TRN). The following links will direct you to the Polk County web site to search by parcel number or owner name for real estate and manufactured home tax parcels:

Option 2: You may proceed with the online payment process and when the system requests your TRN, click the ‘need assistance’ tab to request that we email the TRN to you. When paying on the last day we recommend using option 1.
